Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
Whereas:
• Canada’s own security guidance warns that drones from non-trusted suppliers can transfer data to foreign jurisdictions and be switched off remotely;
• One of the first companies awarded contracts under the Defence Drone Initiative has received investment from a firm backed by Donald Trump Junior;
• The Kushner family profits from the growth of foreign military drone contracts while collecting over one hundred million dollars in fees from Gulf sovereign funds; and
• Canada has nearly four hundred qualified Canadian suppliers and a termination-for-convenience clause that limits any financial exposure from cancelling foreign-backed contracts.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to require : 1. That all military drones procured by the Government of Canada be manufactured by Canadian-owned companies, 2. That all drone software and flight data be stored on Canadian soil; 3. That full disclosure of any foreign ownership or investment in every supplier be made public before any contract is signed; and 4. That the Government of Canada prioritize Canadian-owned manufacturers for all military drone procurement and protect Canadian sovereignty over the data and software that could be used against us.
