Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
• Canadians are enduring a cost-of-living crisis and a recession;
• 1 in 4 Canadians are food insecure;
• Food Banks Canada’s Poverty Report Card gave Canada a failing grade in addressing food security; and
• Canada produces the highest quality food in the most ethical and environmentally responsible manner in the world.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Repeal all domestic taxes on food including the industrial carbon tax, the food packaging tax, and the Liberal fuel standard that adds 17 cents per litre of gas;
2. Remove the industrial carbon tax as it increases the price of farm equipment, fertilizer, and food processing; and
3. Support agriculture research by reversing the funding cuts to the three Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research and development centres and four satellite research farms, including the satellite farms at Scott, Saskatchewan and Indian Head, Saskatchewan.
