Petition Text
Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
• Weatheradio Canada has for decades provided Canadians with reliable radio broadcasts of weather forecasts, watches, warnings, and emergency information;
• The service has been an important public safety tool, particularly in areas prone to severe weather including hurricanes, post-tropical cyclones, severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, and winter storms; and
• Weatheradio receivers provide immediate alerts even in areas where cellular service may be unreliable or unavailable, including rural and remote regions.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to reconsider the decision to discontinue Weatheradio Canada, and restore or replace the Weatheradio Canada network with a reliable nationwide radio-based weather alerting system to ensure Canadians continue to receive timely and accessible weather warnings and forecasts.
