Petition Text
Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
• Over 2,400 members of the Canadian Armed Forces since 1914 have died on Canadian soil in the line of duty during peacetime;
• The Government of Canada has pledged to honour their memory; and
• A National Day of Remembrance is proposed to honour Canadian Armed Forces members who have lost their lives on Canadian soil.
We, the undersigned, members of the Malahat Legion, Branch 134, call upon the Government of Canada to honour Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives on Canadian soil during peacetime by designating October 22nd of each year beginning in the year 2026 as the “Peacetime Service and Sacrifice Memorial Day” and instruct the national flag of Canada to be lowered to half-mast on that day each year in recognition of those who served and sacrificed.
