Petition to the House of Commons
Whereas:
• The butter tart is a cherished Canadian dessert and an important part of Canada's culinary and cultural heritage;
• Since 2013, Canadian bakers, butter tart festivals, tourism organizations, agricultural producers, and communities have celebrated National Butter Tart Day on June 1st;
• June 1st is already widely recognized and promoted by Canadian bakeries, butter tart festivals, tourism organizations, media outlets, and consumers as National Butter Tart Day;
• June 1st has become an established and inclusive annual tradition that supports Canadian bakeries, food tourism, local economies, and agricultural industries; and
• The Canadian butter tart community celebrates both traditional recipes and creative interpretations that reflect the diversity and innovation of Canadian baking culture.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to officially recognize June 1st as National Butter Tart Day in Canada.
