Petition Text
Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
Whereas:
• There is a critical safeguarding gap where children, or likenesses and dolls intended to represent children, can appear in otherwise non-explicit social media or promotional content used to advertise or drive engagement for commercial adult-content businesses;
• Children cannot consent to being associated with, or used to market and promote, commercial pornography or adult-content enterprises;
• Current federal law does not explicitly prohibit the inclusion of children or child representations in non-explicit marketing materials that serve to promote adult-content businesses or platforms; and
• Establishing clear legal boundaries to protect children from being used as promotional or engagement tools for adult-oriented businesses is an urgent public safety and child protection priority within federal jurisdiction.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to: 1. Introduce legislation and amend the Criminal Code to make it illegal to use children, or their likeness (including synthetic media, digital representations, or child-like dolls), in advertising, promotional material, or social media content used to promote commercial pornography or adult-content businesses, regardless of whether the material featuring the child is itself sexually explicit; and 2. Create enforceable accountability mechanisms for platforms and commercial entities that permit or monetize such promotional material.
