Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
Whereas:
• Retired Warrant Officer Michel Beaulieu, then a Corporal in the Canadian Armed Forces, served Canada with honour and courage during his deployment in Afghanistan and was awarded the Medal of Military Valour for outstanding acts of bravery in combat;
• The circumstances surrounding the events that led to this award, including the injuries sustained and the actions taken to protect his comrades in a combat situation, warrant a thorough and fair reassessment; and
• A national debate is currently underway regarding the reassessment of certain military honours related to the Afghanistan conflict, particularly where new evidence, testimony or analysis justify a rigorous and fair review of exceptional acts of bravery.
We, the undersigned citizens of Canada supporting fair and equitable recognition of acts of exceptional military bravery, call upon the Government of Canada to request a formal and rigorous review of the military decoration file of retired Warrant Officer Michel Beaulieu in order to determine whether the acts of bravery performed during his service in Afghanistan have been fully assessed in accordance with the criteria governing Canadian military honours.
