Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
Whereas:
• The Trump Administration in the United States is openly trying to erase and outlaw LBGTQ+ individuals, and this rhetoric is causing violence to happen to them;
• Canada and multiple other countries have issued travel advisories for the United States regarding safety due to their government actions;
• Canada's core values as a bastion of fairness, compassion and safety are at risk if we continue to ignore the plight of LBGTQ+ peoples of the United States; and
• Anti Transgender legislation has been passed in New Hampshire and Wisconsin , with another 689 bills under consideration across the United States.
We, the undersigned, Citizens of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to alter the rules surrounding Canada's definition of the United States as a "safe third country" to make an allowance for LBGTQ+ American residents to file refugee claims to Canada for protection from imminent persecution and potential violence simply for being themselves.
