Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
• There are disability support programs under provincial and territorial jurisdiction;
• These programs are fragmented and poorly integrated across the country;
• The lack of coordination across the country creates a mobility penalty for people with disabilities; and
• This undermines the freedom of movement between provinces and territories for citizens and permanent residents, which is a protected right under Section 6 of the Canadian Constitution.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Engage with the provinces and territories to ensure that people with disabilities can move across the country freely without losing access to essential supports; and
2. Work with the provinces and territories to ensure that disability supports have the same standards and rules across the country.
