Petition Text
Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
• The government’s “AI for All” Strategy (published June 4, 2026) encourages heavy adoption of AI by businesses without considering the probable impacts on Canadian job numbers;
• The Strategy earmarks $200 billion in taxpayer money for a speculative and unproven technology;
• The Strategy fails to address the environmental and climate impacts of 60% AI adoption by 2034; and
• The Strategy aims to “provide access to trusted AI agents for every post-secondary student” while disregarding the likely consequences to educational standards (i.e. widespread AI-enabled cheating).
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Immediately conduct a study of the Strategy’s likely impact on short-term and long-term Canadian job numbers;
2. If a net job loss is forecasted, rework the Strategy to prioritize job preservation and creation for Canadians;
3. Commit the $200 billion in stages, with subsequent investment dependent on real, tangible benefits for Canadians, and prioritize Canadian-owned, Canadian-housed servers;
4. Undertake a rigorous scientific assessment of the likely environmental and climate impacts of 60% AI adoption by 2034;
5. Work closely with the academic sector to ensure meaningful educational standards are maintained;
6. Uphold Canada’s national mandate to “foster and promote the study and enjoyment of, and the production of works in, the arts,” and protect the interests of Canadian creators against mass-produced AI content; and
7. Weighing all projected negative impacts (economic, educational, social, and environmental) against projected benefits, reassess whether there is a clear mandate for the Strategy, or whether it should be revoked or modified.
