Petition Text
Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
• Moneris Solutions Corporation is a major Canadian payment-processing platform that processes a substantial share of Canadian retail transactions;
• Payment-processing infrastructure, and the sensitive payment, financial, merchant, and identity-related data it handles, are essential to Canada’s economic resilience, privacy, competition, and national sovereignty; and
• The proposed acquisition of Moneris Solutions Corporation by Francisco Partners would place essential Canadian payments infrastructure under U.S. ownership and control, creating unacceptable risks to Canadian data sovereignty, privacy, operational resilience, and economic security.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to: 1. Use all available federal authorities to deny or otherwise prevent the proposed acquisition of Moneris Solutions Corporation by Francisco Partners; 2. Preserve Canadian ownership and control of this essential payments infrastructure; and 3. Protect Canadians’ sensitive payment, financial, merchant, and identity-related data from foreign control or access inconsistent with Canadian law and Canada’s national interest.
