Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
• Canada is facing severe affordability pressures, including housing costs, food prices, fuel costs, healthcare strain, taxation pressure, and pressure on small businesses;
• Canadians deserve clear, plain language transparency regarding federal spending priorities during periods of economic weakness; and
• The Government of Canada provides international assistance, foreign loans, grants, guarantees, and other overseas financial commitments.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to: 1. Conduct and publish a plain language public audit of Canada’s international assistance, foreign loans, grants, guarantees, and overseas financial commitments; 2. Clearly identify which amounts are grants, repayable loans, guarantees, or other financial commitments; disclose the recipients, repayment terms, risk exposure, and expected benefit to Canada where legally permitted; 3. Explain how these expenditures are justified while Canadians face affordability, housing, food, fuel, healthcare, taxation, and small business pressures; and4. Present this information in a format accessible to the Canadian public.
