Petition Text
Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
Whereas:
• A meaningful seniors’ discount at Tim Hortons can help improve well-being, encourage social connection, support seniors living on limited incomes and create more inclusive and compassionate communities across Canada;
• Older adults remain at high risk of social isolation and loneliness: 43% remain at a high risk of social isolation and 57% experience loneliness — unchanged since 2022;
• Social engagement is declining: participation in social or recreational activities once a week or more fell from 39% to 33% over the past year, with affordability the most significant barrier (The 2025 NIA Ageing in Canada Survey);
• Sinai Health reported that financial strain can limit seniors’ ability to remain socially connected, affecting both physical and mental health, and that 43% of Canadians aged 50+ are at risk of social isolation and 57% report experiencing loneliness;
• These realities impact more than physical health as, when seniors cannot afford simple social outings, and isolation deepens;
• Tim Hortons is a social eatery for Canadians which can engage a vital role in easing out the social isolation in our seniors; and
• The current seniors’ offering at Tim Hortons is fragmented, insufficient, and lacks uniform application across Canada.
We, the undersigned, Citizens of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to respectfully urge Restaurant Brands International and Tim Hortons to implement a consistent and meaningful seniors’ discount across all Canadian locations for individuals aged 55 and older, such as $1.00 for small-sized coffee or tea and 25% discount on all baked goods.
