Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
Whereas:
• Endometriosis affects approximately 1 in 10 women, girls, and gender-diverse people, yet diagnosis is often delayed for years;
• People living with endometriosis in Canada face barriers to timely diagnosis, specialist care, excision surgery, pelvic pain care, fertility support, and workplace and school accommodations;
• A coordinated national strategy is needed to improve education, research, data collection, diagnosis, treatment access, and support across provinces and territories;
• Egg freezing and other fertility preservation options can be costly, and public coverage varies across Canada; and
• Fertility preservation should be considered when a disease or medically necessary treatment threatens someone’s future fertility.
We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to:
1. Support expanded access to fertility preservation for people with severe endometriosis whose fertility may be medically at risk;
2. Recognize severe endometriosis, ovarian endometriomas, reduced ovarian reserve, and repeat ovarian or pelvic surgery as valid medical fertility risks; and
3. Work with provincial and territorial governments to improve access to publicly funded fertility preservation counselling, referrals, testing, egg freezing, medication support, and storage-fee support when medically needed.
