Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
Whereas:
• Access to safe, affordable, and well-maintained housing is essential to the wellbeing, morale, and operational readiness of members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families;
• Concerns have been raised regarding the management, maintenance standards, affordability, and accountability of housing under the Canadian Forces Housing Agency (CFHA);
• Military families often face unique challenges, including frequent relocations, limited housing availability, and financial strain;
• Improved oversight, accountability, and alignment with the needs of serving members may be achieved through restructuring how military housing is managed; and
• Removing their independent Human Resource department will allow for fair and equal treatment of their employees within the public sector and be provided equal supports to other public servants.
We, the undersigned, Military members and their families, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to 1. Conduct a full and transparent review of the Canadian Forces Housing Agency, including its governance, performance, and accountability; 2. Consider dissolving or restructuring the Canadian Forces Housing Agency; 3. Transfer responsibility for military housing directly to the Department of National Defence or the Canadian Armed Forces to ensure greater accountability and responsiveness to the needs of military members and their families; and 4. Implement clear standards for affordability, maintenance, and quality of military housing, with regular public reporting.
