Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
Whereas:
• Under the “Rights of Information Act” (1985), “Every person who is a Canadian citizen, or a permanent resident has the right to and shall, on request, be given access to any record under the control of a government institution.”
• Canadian democracy relies on government clarity.
• On April 29th, 2026, during a parliamentary health committee, the new government majority voted to shut off public recordings of the meeting, going “in camera,” restricting public access to speeches, interviews, and comments from MPs.
• The Prime Minister has openly attempted and successfully poached opposition MPs against the wishes of their constituents.
• Mark Carney is the first Canadian Prime Minister to gain a majority government through back-door deals, not votes.
• One of the Prime Minister’s first acts with his manufactured majority was to “stack” parliamentary committees to gain total control.
We, the undersigned, Citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to 1. Keep all parliamentary committees and parliamentary businesses public, recorded and published; 2. Not interfere with the ongoing ethics investigation into the Prime Minister by the Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics committee; 3. Cease all efforts to undemocratically poach opposition MPs; 4. Amend C-25 to keep electoral fundraising public; and 5. Focus on Canadians, not power.
