Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
• on February 28, 2026, the USA and Israel carried out missile attacks on the "Shajareh Tayyebeh" elementary school in Minab in Iran, killing at least 165 school children and constituting a grave violation of international humanitarian law (IHL);
• Canada maintains formal alliances with, and cooperates militarily with, the USA and Israel, thus bearing responsibility under domestic and international law;
• Canada, as a Party to the Geneva Conventions, bears obligations to refrain from assisting violations of IHL, and is further bound by the Arms Trade Treaty and the Export and Import Permits Act to deny arms transfers in such contexts;
• Canada has not taken a stance on the incident, regarding condemnation, investigation, and accountability measures; and
• insufficient action risks further loss of civilian life, erosion of international law, and harm to Canada's international reputation.
We, the undersigned, Citizens and Residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to :
1- Issue a formal and unambiguous condemnation of the attack;
2- Suspend all military aid and related assistance to the USA and Israel during the current conflict pending a full and independent investigation;
3- Table in the House of Commons a full accounting of Canada's relationship with the United States and Israel regarding this conflict, including any relevant policies, agreements, and oversight mechanisms;
4- Work within the United Nations, the International Criminal Court, and relevant bodies to ensure accountability mechanisms are applied;
5- Instruct the Minister of Foreign Affairs to publish a formal IHL compliance assessment of current and pending arms transfers to the USA and Israel.
